Water Is Safe To Drink

Upper Trinity Regional Water District customers in the northeastern Denton County have reported a change in the appearance of their water. The treatment plant which provides drinking water to this area has experienced periodic episodes of cloudy or slight color in the water. 

Upper Trinity assures customers that the water is safe for all purposes: drinking, cooking and bathing. Customers may notice a slight change in color, but it is just an aesthetic matter, not a safety question. The water meets and exceeds all water quality regulations set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency. 

The Harpool Water Treatment Plant became operational less than a year ago. The water treatment Process continues to be fine tuned to improve aesthetic qualities of the water. These "color" episodes are expected to diminish over the next few weeks. 

Water being treated at the Harpool Plant is from Chapman Lake. This lake went dry two years ago during the drought. The lake bed grew an abundance of vegetation, then was flooded when recent rains refilled the lake. 

Upper Trinity is doing everything possible to minimize the episodes of cloudy or slightly colored water. This is strictly an aesthetic issue.
